Earthing with beach sand at home? No: you're connecting to the planet, not the sand.

What is earthing really?

Earthing or grounding involves connecting electrically with the Earth to allow the exchange of negative electrons between the planet and your body. This flow helps neutralize free radicals and is associated with benefits such as better sleep, less stress, and a sense of balance.

Why is putting your feet in a container of sand at home NOT earthing?

  • It's isolated from the planet. A pile of sand inside a house isn't connected to Earth's electron network.

  • Without connection, there is no flow. It may feel pleasant to the touch, but there is no actual exchange of electrons .

  • Conclusion: it is a sensory experience, not earthing .

Earthing in the city: even more necessary

In urban environments, pollution and insulating surfaces reduce the availability of negative electrons on a daily basis. Therefore, seeking direct connections (parks, dirt, grass, natural sand, or well-grounded grounding accessories) makes even more sense.

Why does the air “clean” after it rains?

When it rains, negative ions (negatively charged air molecules) are generated. This occurs due to the collision and breakup of water droplets and the electrical activity of thunderstorms. These negative ions adhere to dust, pollen, and pollutant particles, causing them to fall to the ground more quickly. Therefore, the air often feels fresher and cleaner after rain.

In contrast, in cities with heavy traffic, positive ions predominate, and pollution also reduces the number of negative ions available. The result: less natural "cleanliness" of the air and a lesser feeling of freshness.

Quick note: In the air, we're mostly talking about ions (charged molecules), not loose electrons. Still, the idea is the same: more negative charge = cleaner, more comfortable air .

How to earth (easy and safe)

  • Walk barefoot on dirt, grass or natural sand .

  • Use grounding mats or strips connected to the ground (verified) or to an external rod .

  • Check the ground connection with a tester.

  • Avoid insulating soles: it is better to go barefoot or wear conductive socks .
