Did you know that a socketed foot can be left with less than half of its natural strength?
Quick exercise : Take off your shoes, sit down, and spread each toe like a "V." Hold for 2 seconds, relax, and repeat. ✔︎ 10 reps.
➔ Quick challenge : do the series while your coffee is preparing.
Why does it matter? In the 2021 study published in "Scientific Reports," intrinsic foot strength increased by 57% after six months of daily use of minimalist footwear.
What they measured: Plantar intrinsic muscle strength (toe flexion) in Western adults.
How they did it: 22 participants switched to minimalist footwear for their daily activities (non-running) for 6 months and were compared to a control group of 24 participants wearing conventional footwear.
Key finding: Foot strength increased by 57% ; the "novice" users achieved the same strength as another group of 20 participants with 2.5 years of experience wearing minimalist footwear, indicating that half a year is enough to match the veterans.
Why it matters: A stronger foot improves balance and gait stability.
